School History
Middle College at HCC Felix Fraga opened its doors in 2014 as a partnership between Houston ISD and Houston Community College with the mission of re-engaging students who were at risk of not graduating from traditional high schools. Located in Houston’s historic Second Ward, the school was named in honor of Felix Fraga, a longtime community leader and advocate for education and youth development. With a focus on personalized learning, college readiness, and strong community ties, Fraga has grown into a small but high-performing campus, offering students the opportunity to earn high school diplomas while simultaneously taking college courses. Since its founding, Middle College at HCC Fraga has maintained a reputation for academic support, individualized attention, and a commitment to helping students succeed both in and beyond the classroom.
A Legacy Rooted in Our Community: Honoring Felix Fraga
While many schools are named after historical figures from far-off places and long-ago eras, Middle College High School at HCC Fraga carries the name of someone who lived among us — someone who walked these streets, listened to our stories, and fought for our future. Felix Fraga was not a distant icon; he was a neighbor, a mentor, and a tireless advocate for Houston’s East End.
Mr. Fraga dedicated his life to public service, youth empowerment, and educational access. His work wasn’t theoretical or symbolic — it was practical, heartfelt, and deeply rooted in this community. He believed in second chances. He believed in opening doors for those who had been overlooked. And most of all, he believed in the potential of every young person, no matter their circumstances.
His passing in 2024 still feels fresh to those who knew him — not as a name on a building, but as a presence in the lives he touched. And yet, his spirit lives on. It lives in every student who reimagines their future, in every teacher who refuses to give up on a learner, and in every family that finds hope within these walls.
We don’t just bear Felix Fraga’s name. We carry his mission. We are living proof of his dream — and every step we take forward is a tribute to the path he paved.
